Health First Freelancer

Oops I took a week off 🤷‍♀️

Hey Reader,

You hear a lot about *consistency* in the business world.

But for the freelancer with chronic illness, consistency usually = dread.

I think it's actually the key idea that stops most people from freelancing -- they idea that they have to always be on, always be working for new leads and new business.

"Show up every single day or you're not doing it right." 🙄

What if you just need an hour, a day, a week off -- like how I skipped writing this newsletter last week after getting back from Colorado and a week of altitude sickness. 😵‍💫 (0/10, do not recommend)

I would challenge "consistency" as the end all be all of success.

I think rather than being consistent all the time, what you actually need is persistence.

To keep coming back to the thing. To not give up. To allow yourself the break, and then to return with as much energy as you have.

You're not wrong for needing rest. You're not wrong for taking the break, for missing a day. Or two days, or a week.

Those who preach consistency consistency consistency (usually muscle-y men in their mid 20s-30s) clearly have the luxury of their health.

For those of us who have mitigating factors that often derail consistency, just focus on doing your best.

After my break from writing the newsletter last week, today I feel great sitting down to write this on a Monday morning. Reenergized. Refreshed. Back at sea level. 😅

Consistency feels much more achievable today... after I took the break.

How do you feel about this business buzzword?

Do you prefer consistency, or persistence? Or something else? Hit reply and let me know. 😊

Wishing you energy, focus, and creativity this week.

Don't cry for me Colorado ⛰️,

Amanda
