How to make decisions for your health

Hey Reader,

For today's newsletter, I want to circle back to something I had to learn earlier in my health journey.

How to actually make decisions about what to do for your health.

A process where you might take in certain information and research about your condition or your symptoms, the treatment options available to you, and what seems logically right for you to do.

But also a process where you can tap into your intuition, and some might say, a "higher knowing" of the next best decision.

Let me give you an example.

So back in early 2019 when I was going through the worst period of an ulcerative colitis flare and undiagosed Lyme disease, there was a period where I received a few infusions of an immunosuppressant medication to try and calm the UC.

For the second infusion of this drug, I remember going into the hospital and absolutely dreading this treatment. Not because it would be particularly painful or difficult, but because some part of me knew that it wasn't going to work.

And not only that, that it might potentially make me feel even worse. Which at that point, was almost impossible to imagine.

I felt so strongly about this that I nearly sent myself into a panic attack sitting in the treatment chair. My brain and my body were screaming at me, stop! Run away now! Don't do it!!!

And what did I do instead? I got the infusion. Because that was the current plan my doctors had for me. Because it was the thing I "should" do. And at the time, it seemed like I had no other choice.

And sure enough, the only result I got from that treatment was feeling even more defeated, toxic, and very very sick.

My screaming intuition was right.

Now fast forward to the end of 2019 when I discovered frequency medicine, which would change my life.

I somehow found out about an incredible therapy called Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) -- I don't even remember how at this point.

I read about this astonishing treatment that helped people relieve years of chronic pain, anxiety, and all kinds of debilitating conditions.

That lead me to find a practitioner in my area. I felt excited and curious about this treatment option. It felt like something I needed to try.

But not "needed to try" in a forcing way, "needed" like a calm, helpful, point-me-in-the-right-direction, here's-the-next-right-step sort of way.

There was no attachment, anxiety, or forceful movement towards this treatment. It was simply the next right step.

It was a decision that came from a knowing somewhere inside of me, instead of outside of me.

So I did the treatment. And while I felt some kind of relaxing, healing effect from the FSM, it didn't have the desired effect I was looking for either.

But the practitioner who administered the FSM got to know my situation and my story a bit, and he suggested I see the owner of the clinic for another frequency-based treatment called Ondamed. 👀

And that changed my life. Ondamed led me to finally getting a Lyme diagnosis, putting all the pieces of my health journey together, and finally getting a plan in place to get me back to wellness. 🙌

So if you're wondering what you're "supposed" to do right now for your health, start asking yourself:

  • What kinds of therapies/treatments are you curious about? Nutrition, supplements, medications, somatic therapies, mental health practices, etc. There's no wrong answer as long as you feel it's right for you.
  • Follow that curiosity. Learn more.
  • When you learn about something that particularly piques your interest, trust that it's your body and your intuition trying to tell you something. Trying to give you the next right step.
  • Try the thing. If it helps, keep doing it. If it doesn't, notice what you learned from the experience and go back to step 1.

At the end of the day, there's no wrong answer, only lessons along the way to healing. Accept now that you're going to make some "mistakes." It's all part of the process.

If you've been wondering about where to go next on your health journey, I hope this helps, Reader.

If you feel like it, reply and let me know: what is a healing modality that you discovered by following your curiosity and intuition to learn more? Did it help you? If not, what did you learn from the experience?

Stay curious 🧐,

Amanda
