Build a business that puts your health and wellbeing FIRST, even if you have a chronic illness. If I did it, so can you! Weekly freelancing, health and lifestyle tips, straight to your inbox.
Fall is upon us, Reader, 🍁 And very interestingly, it seems like all of my friends are starting businesses right now. 👀 Well, okay, not all of them, but like a significant percentage. A high school friend who moved back to MKE a few months ago told me last week that she's starting her own one-woman virtual counseling practice. Which makes her a freelancer in my book! Another friend bought a business a few months ago where she sells promotional products to local (and not so local) small businesses. And yet another friend is not going freelance just yet, but she accepted a bridge job to help her save up over the next 18 months so that she can go out on her own with enough runway to feel comfortable. She's got a plan in place and feels great about where she's headed. It's pretty incredible. Am I the common thread here? Did I start this trend? 😁 I don't know, but I love seeing my friends choose their own path and blaze a trail they never thought possible. It's the story of most freelancers/business owners/entrepreneurs I know. Very few of us start out in the workforce knowing we'll become business owners. Most of us end up on this path because of necessity (aka me), or at least a desire for something we can't find within a "regular" job. What about you, Reader? What's your freelancing "why?" Now, if you're here at Health First Freelancer, at least one part of your why is your health. We both know that much. But "health first" doesn't mean your health has to be your one and only reason for running your own show. What else do you want from a freelancing career? Wealth and abundance? You can have it. Location and time freedom? Absolutely. The ability to spend more time with your kids and family? 100%. Do me a favor. Assuming time and space to take care of your health is a given, write out the top 3 reasons you want to freelance. And write them as though you are already doing the thing. Here's an example: I am a freelancer so that I can work from anywhere without being tied to an office or set work hours. I love the location freedom I have with freelancing. Feel free to type them out so you get the wording right, but then I recommend writing each on a sticky note and placing them somewhere you'll see often, like your bathroom mirror or your refrigerator. When you see these reasons every day, you'll start to train your brain to believe them and shift your perception around what is possible. Combine that with small, concrete steps forward, and you'll find yourself a freelancer a lot sooner than you expect. Start today, even if you're not 100% sure yet. You got this. 💪 Always open to the possibilities 🌌, Amanda P.S. I have a new YouTube video coming your way soon all about the ways that freelancing changed my life.
